To Inspire Purposeful Leading

Foundations of Leadership Program

BUILDING LEADERSHIP CAPACITY
A COMPREHENSIVE THREE-YEAR PROGRAM
FOCUSED ON ESSENTIAL LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES & PRACTICES

You’ve been out in the marketplace for several years now.  You probably feel like you received an excellent grounding from your college years.  And yet the pressures of everyday life have set-in.  Managing a career; paying the mortgage; perhaps creating a family; and still wanting to make meaningful contributions in your world.  To help you with these challenges, individuals and organizations have partnered with the Vail Leadership Institute to provide a unique opportunity for you to advance from managing to leading, and at the same time, to connect with other like- minded individuals.

A group at Yarmony Creek Lodge

The program starts with a three-day retreat in Colorado’s high country around Vail that will encourage you, rejuvenate your spirit and hopefully launch you on a life-long learning journey.  You’ll go back to your organization more focused and energized, having tapped into your God-given leadership potential.  The retreat experience will be followed by a series of activities through our Leaders Network that will keep you connected to leadership development over a three year period.  Many of these activities will be facilitated by a mentor of the Institute’s White River Council.

The primary purpose of Foundations of Leadership is to build your leadership capacity by exposing you to a character-driven, values-based leadership framework called Inside First™ These principles and leading practices, drawn from numerous leadership experts, will advance you to a more thoughtful and productive level.  We believe good and effective leadership is built more on character and one’s personal ethics than on skills.  And character and ethics are often founded on a spiritual perspective, however you see this dimension, that strengthens hearts.

The program will use a combination of public and private facilities in the Vail Valley where you will engage in stimulating interactive dialogue and outdoor experiential exercises.  If you are interested in this unique opportunity, please make contact through the attached application.

ANNUAL PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

Following the retreat, you will stay connected to the leadership development process through your small group and through the on-going work of the Institute that is loosely linked to monthly themes.

Also, a series of Advanced Curriculum Modules will be offered in either half-day or full-day formats.  These workshops will include the Seasons of Leadership, Authentic Communications, Moral Reasoning & Courage, the Alignment Model, Core Relationships and Dialogue.  Two modules will be offered each year over the three years.

Beyond these more formal activities, each group will be encouraged to meet twice monthly over coffee or at a private home to stay connected to the work and to each other.  The Institute’s book, The Keys to Leading, may provide a regular structure for these gatherings.  Your mentor will regularly interact with you individually, as well as with the group as a whole on some basis to be determined by the group.

The monthly themes are:

  • January:  Positive Attitude
  • February:  Serving
  • March:  Communicating
